Woof.  I thought that Jack would never leave this keyboard.  He and I had a long talk about things yesterday.  My side went like this, "Whine, roll, look cute, point out the biscuit jar, ask to go out in my usual cute fashion, etc."
His side sounded like this, "Mxmwjrthadkotjfnds;apttjajg;ajga[atle;jfajta;jf;atj;ajttjtj;atj;atj;jat," to me.  We do communicate, but I think that it is in a language all our own.  I wonder why humans are so obtuse sometimes?  I am as clear as daylight when I am telling Jack and Mary what I want or need, but like those small humans that seem to cry and scream so much, I don't think I am an effective communicator.  Think about those cartoons where the human is talking to their pet, and it sounds like a rusty pipe organ.  That's what I am barking about.  Anyways, I know I will have to take Jack and maybe Mary for at least one or two walks again today.  It's a good thing I like walking or they would never get out.  Did I mention that before?  So, until it is time for me to force them out the door, I'll just say...Woof.

Woof.  I thought Jack would never leave.  It get's harder and harder to get in some time at the keyboard.  Doesn't he ever sleep.  But, if that is his only fault, I think I can take it.  After all, he is my pawferred human.  We had a great time in Mary's kitchen yesterday.  Jack was doing something he almost never does, creating something from scratch.  Speaking of scratch, pardon me while I do.  Anyway, I was an invaluable assistant, something Mary calls being a sou chef, whatever that is.  It was my job to clean out the various bowls he used, and both varieties of squash and the various stages of the banana bread tasted great.  Jack wouldn't let me sample the salsa though, he said it wasn't good for me.  When it came time for dinner, I think I got shorted a little, but after all of the sampling earlier, I really didn't mind.  From a dog's point of view, being a sou chef is a great job!  When it was time for dinner, Mary had to go downtown to get some printing done, and I didn't get to go.  But, I got to stay with my pawferred human, so that was all good.  Anyways, I should get going before I get caught.  If Jack caught me, I doubt that he would really care, because, and did I mention this before, I've got him wrapped around my little paw.   Oh well, no sense taking chances.  Some secrets are best kept close.  So until next time, Woof.

Woof.  Phew, Jack just came back to bed, so I should be safe here at the keyboard.  I don't think he has figured out who is using his keyboard, and as long as I am careful, I doubt that he ever will.  I just have to be careful to not leave any clues behind.  That can be tough at this time of year, because I tend to shed a bit, so I have to be extra careful.  Fortunately for me, as my pawferred human, Jack is kind of blind to my flaws, so I get away with a lot.  Still, he isn't very forthcoming with those treats these days.  He keeps saying something about my weight, but I feel just fine.  I did manage to push Mary to give me my dinner early, so I think I have her wrapped around my paw too.  I will have to get up in the AM to take Jack or Jack and Mary for a walk.  I doubt that they could find their way around GH without me.  Kind of like Jack always says in his blog, so much to do, so little time.  Sometimes, it feels like a dog's0 work is never done.  I like it and hate it when we come in from a walk.  Jack gets out the brush and that generally feels good.  But sometimes, I have to let him know that I want him to stop.  Fortunately, the walks and brushing are followed by my favorite thing, a treat of four biscuits.  It doesn't get any better than that, unless there is a banana involved.  So, I'd best be getting back to bed before Jack get's up again and catches me.  So until next time, Woof.

Woof.  Well, it was just Jack and me today.  You'd think that when he goes to that place where the doctors hang, that Mary would walk me, but no, she was just too slow and Jack got back before she even thought about it.  Oh well, she doesn't really understand me the way Jack does.  So, let's talk about my day.   By the way, I got in two walks today, but Jack is still being stingy with those biscuits.  We went downtown, and then I left a present for the church people.  Jack picked most of it up, but I'll be darned if I know why.  One thing I do know, is that neither Jack nor Mary really gets the whole walk thing.  If I could, I'd just get a biscuit and then go back to bed, but I have a duty to perform.  If I didn't get them out for a walk everyday, they would never get out and then I'd feel bad if something went wrong health wise.  One thing is for sure, they never let me run across the street to meet the other members of my posse.  I mean, if they knew that all I wanted to do was say, "hey," they wouldn't be so restrictive.  But, that's life as a dog I guess.  You know, I think I understand them better than they understand me.  When Jack was feeling down that one day, I was there for him.  I get it, I do.  Still, I've got a pretty good thing going here.  I eat, I sleep, I go out, I sleep, I bark at the letter carrier or the UPS man, then I sleep.  If you think about it, the only thing that gets in the way of sleeping, is having to stop to eat, which is my favorite part of the day.  Being a dog is really all about sleeping, sniffing, and eating.  Of course, around here, it is hard to get all I want, because the food is kept in a sealed can and the refrigerator isn't open to me.  Once again, it's that thumb thing.  I do have one other important thing I do around here.  I have to let the humans know when there is a storm approaching.  That ain't easy, let me tell you.  Thunder sounds an awful lot like fireworks, which reminds me of big trucks, so if I am to keep my self and them safe, they have to listen to me.  Trouble is, we don't speak the same language.  Everything I say, comes out sounding whiny or like a bark.  I can't help it.  After all, I am a DOG!  Still I wouldn't trade either of my humans for any others, because they are the best.  Oops, I'd better go, I hear Jack coming.  Woof.

Woof.  Jack thinks I am just lying around somewhere, but little does he know that I am here at his keyboard.  I think Jack isn't as suspicious today.  I figure that if I just lie around and look cute and don't make any suspicious moves, I should be okay.  I know he is holding off dinner, but one thing I've got going for me is that Mary was a soft touch this morning.  We went walking downtown, and stopped in the pet store that sells dog cookies.  Mary bought me one that I just couldn't get enough of, so I got scolded for jumping up to get more as we walked back home.  What did she expect?  I am a D-O-G you know.  Pavlov would be proud.  Anyway, Mary made me go out because I was fussing, but all I really wanted was more of that dog cookie.  She told me that it was all gone, and at $1.86 each, she says they are a special treat, whatever that is.  So, now I will have to lay around until dinner.  Well, I'd best be on my way before Jack gets suspicious.  Woof!

Saturday, November 24, 2012

Woof, I thought Jack would catch me that last time I was blogging.  I have to be careful, because I think he is getting suspicious.  I have to watch where I leave that tell tale trail of white hair. He may not have caught on yet, but he will.  We had a nice walk to the bakery this AM,  Those humans of mine were walking way to slow for me.  You'd think they were worried about breaking their necks or something.  I am always eager to go to the bakery, because Mary usually buys Jack a cookie or doughnut, that he shares with me. But today, no cookie, no doughnut, and no sharing.  I wonder what I did to deserve that?  Anyways, we came back, I got my usual two biscuits each from Jack and Mary.  I always count to see that I get the allotted amount of biscuits.  I can't count high and I can't tell time, but I know two biscuits when I see em.  Then they left, for a while, I don't know how long, did I mention that I don't tell time too well, and when they got back, I got more biscuits and then dinner a little while later.  I almost conned Jack into feeding me again, after Mary had already fed me, he fell asleep in his office chair, but she let the cat out of the bag.  Did I really say that? So, just one dinner today.  I did get a big breakfast that had lettuce tofu, and a small piece of soy dog in it.  So, I guess that I shouldn't complain, but like I said, I am a dog, so my meals can be few and far between since I don't have any thumbs.  Did I mention that before?  So now, I'd best be on my way before Jack catches me.  A dog can't be too careful, now can she?  So until next time, woof.  That's like aloha.  It works whether you are coming or going.

Hey fellow canines. It's me, Sugar the Weather Dog.  I stole a few minutes at Jack's keyboard to write a few lines.  Like Mary always says, it's a lot harder when you don't have thumbs, but believe me, Jack has thumbs, and I've watched him using his keyboard, so I don't know if there really is anything to be gained from having thumbs, except for opening doors and things.  Anyways, I thought I'd tell you about how great Thanksgiving was from a dog's perspective.  Now I'm not sure what Thanksgiving is really all about, but here's what I know.  First, you get up late.  Not much new there. Then Mary works in the kitchen with a little help from Jack and makes some kind of small bread loaves which they had for breakfast, except of the three, Mary put two in the freezer, where she keeps my bones.  Maybe that means there will be some for me.  I got to sample them, and I liked that part of the day.  Then of course, the humans sit around, watch the magic box and finally, they feed me breakfast, but all I got was a little yogurt.  Mary kept saying that I had already had too much to eat and that I'd be getting more as the day went on.  Hey, I'm a dog, I can never get too much.  You never know when your next meal will be happening.  Okay, Jack and the vet say I've been getting too many calories lately, but what's a dog to do?  Next, you take a long walk, ditto on what's different. Then you come back and Mary gets to work using what looked like every spoon, pot, pan, and bowl in her kitchen.  She even let my pawferred human help.  Now you're probably thinking, so what.  Well, here's the good part about Thanksgiving.  The smells are awesome, and they let me sample almost everything.  I had egg and cheese, and beans, and some kind of loaf thing, but somewhere in there, Adam and Steph called so we had to stop to talk to them.  Anyway, they are in some place called Boston, so they didn't come.  From a dog's perspective, not bad, more for me.  So, finally the meal was in the oven, no more raw foods for me.  I think I heard the humans call it a mostly vegan meal, and I guess that is different, but I don't know for sure.  Finally, after what seemed like forever, remember, I can't tell time very well, they sat down to eat.  Of course, during the preparation Mary had to make her usual sounds that told me things were hitting the floor, more good for me.  So, they sat, ate, didn't give me any table scraps, and then each proclaimed that it was the best Thanksgiving ever.  I have to agree, it was my best for sure, whatever that Thanksgiving thing is.  I hope they do it more often, but somehow, I don't think so.  I think I heard them say it only comes once a year.  So, they sat around, remarked about how windy it was and then, it was time for dinner.  I think I got less, but as I've said, as a dog, I come up short on the counting thing.  So, that was Thanksgiving.  I'm tired again and Jack is probably about to come in, so I'd best be on my way.  A quick look out the Weather Window tells me that it is something Jack calls a gray day, cloudy, no sun shining in the beautiful Grand Haven sky, and from what I can tell, it is even more windy than it was yesterday during our walk.  So, I'll have to be brave and help my humans get through it.  So until next time, thanks Mary and Jack, I had the best Thanksgiving ever.  Food was great, the company was good, and best of all, I've got something to look forward to again.  All good.  Woof.
